B7 and the Myers Briggs

I think the Myers Briggs is mostly nonsense, but I enjoy taking personality tests as B7 characters, and this one is well suited. If you feel the same, I invite you to take the Myers Briggs as a B7 character or two (or look up the descriptions of the types and choose that way) and tell me what you think they'd be. This one is decent: http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

And provides decent descriptions of the types: http://www.16personalities.com/personality-types

And this one is quick and dirty, but gave me the same result the longer version did, when I took it as myself:

http://similarminds.com/jung_word_pair.html

My results so far are:

Blake: ENTJ
Avon: ISTJ
Travis: Also ISTJ!
Cally: INFJ (my type)
Tarrant ESTP (my opposite)
Dayna: ESFP
Servalan: ISFP

Jenna is stumping me. I tried taking it as her, but the result I got didn't fit at all. :/

Going by the 16 Personalities chart I'd put Servalan as ESTJ and Jenna as ESTP. (Although maybe Sand hints that Servalan is also ESTP?)

I think the writeup for the ESTJ is scary: ESTJs are the representatives of tradition and order, utilizing their innate understanding of what is right, wrong and socially acceptable to bring families and communities together under a single ideal.

But to me, not necessarily the way Servalan is scary! I don't see her having much of desire to impose her own strong understanding of right and wrong, really--or having much sense of right and wrong.

Thanks for playing. I know you dislike the Myers Briggs, but then, INTJs usually do ;) (Sorry, that's an old joke)

Yukyukyuk. I came out as ISFJ on the paired words test though.

When asked to define the characteristics of B7 fandom I often say that vis a vis the general population B7 fans are much less likely to know how to cook or how to drive, and much more likely to be interested in Myers Briggs.

because the chart obviously only talks about good traits, it does make sense to map these traits onto fictional characters - particularly heroic fictional characters. blake's description is like - yup, obviously. avon's makes a lot of sense for the stuff that i think is important about avon (although i wonder if someone who did think that avon was cold and hard would get the same result. i mean - the fact that you got it for travis suggests maybe, although a) i like that you got avon and travis as the same. that suggests a fic to be and b) i like that travis's personality business is that he's reliable - by which i mean loyal. whenever i think properly about travis, i remember his reaction to maryatt. and i think - maybe travis wasn't always such a creep.)

i also like the fact that tarrant - whom you find easiest to write - is your opposite.

i have come out with ENFP btw. always find these quite difficult because i am me - so i know that i do different things in different situations. whereas (and i think we maybe talked about it with another quiz we were doing) i feel i definitively know - or don't mind choosing - what a fictional character would do.

i reckon jenna must be an ISTP from the descriptions, though obviously i dont particularly think of jenna as an introvert. it wouldn't.. not make sense though.

:D :D Yes, although for B7 they might be easier to map on if they were a bit more negative! In that vein, this description of the types is sort of amusing: http://www.xeromag.com/fun/personality.html

I do think Avon and Travis probably have more in common than Blake and Travis, personality wise, even though Travis is supposed to be Blake's dark mirror. I totally believe that in an AU like Corngold's, Blake would have dated them both :P

Really good call on Jenna. I wouldn't have thought of it, but now that you say it, I think it must be right! :D

...but I'm, depending on the day, ENTJ or INTJ? I am not comfortable with this.

Ahaha. How is this a surprise.

Interesting. I agree with you on Blake- years ago I used to be solidly ENTJ every time (when I was an heartless but dedicated tax inspector) and it was definitely very Blake-like. These days I'm more INTP- the world can sort itself out without me, I'll just play with the interesting bits.

I'm not surprised that Avon and Travis share characteristics. Travis doesn't much like compromise and self deceit either. I'm not at all convinced by Servalan's though. I ended up with her as an ENTJ too- the precise opposite of yours!

Glad you agree about Blake. He can be so slippery for me!

I can see Servalan as an ENTJ! It would be interesting if she and Blake were the same type and so were Avon and Travis. I think my interpretation of Servalan must be very different than most people's. I've never really written her, actually.

One of the most useful things I ever heard about fanwriting was Penny Dreadful's advice about walking in the character's shoes (well, in Servalan's case they'd be too high for comfort, but you know what she meant). I didn't feel I could write Servalan until Betrayal (with Tarrant as it happens) and since then I've felt at least potential sympathy for her.

Yeah, that is good. Must remember it! I also like Joss Whedon's advice not to have a character say something just to set up a joke or a good line for another character.

ETA: Makes perfect sense, if you put Blake and Servalan in the "Think they know how to govern the Federation" folder and Avon and Travis in the "Obsessed with Blake" folder.

True!
