So, my wonderful boyfriend has done some slick coding that lets us extract all of the dialogue for any given character in a Blake's 7 transcript (or compilation of transcripts). I've used this code to create word clouds (a vice of mine) for Blake's series 1 & 2 dialogue, Avon's series 1 & 2 dialogue, and all of Avon's dialogue in the entire show. I'm embedding the word clouds so that you all can have a look. It's very easy to generate these, so if anyone has a request for a character (Zen? Orac? Dayna? Jenna?), feel free to ask away. One thing I notice is that obviously Avon is very obsessed with Blake, and vice versa, but Blake is clearly the leader and speaks accordingly. Where Avon hardly uses anyone's name but Blake's, Blake uses everyone's name quite frequently (though Gan less than the others). Since I've done Avon's dialogue across all of the series, it's hard to compare their leadership styles based on these. I could make a 3&4 Avon wordle, though, if that interests people. Anyway, speculations, observations and requests welcome!

I think the Myers Briggs is mostly nonsense, but I enjoy taking personality tests as B7 characters, and this one is well suited. If you feel the same, I invite you to take the Myers Briggs as a B7 character or two (or look up the descriptions of the types and choose that way) and tell me what you think they'd be. This one is decent: http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

And provides decent descriptions of the types: http://www.16personalities.com/personality-types

And this one is quick and dirty, but gave me the same result the longer version did, when I took it as myself:

http://similarminds.com/jung_word_pair.html

My results so far are:

Blake: ENTJ
Avon: ISTJ
Travis: Also ISTJ!
Cally: INFJ (my type)
Tarrant ESTP (my opposite)
Dayna: ESFP
Servalan: ISFP

Jenna is stumping me. I tried taking it as her, but the result I got didn't fit at all. :/

Name ~3 B7 fics you think I wouldn't ever, ever write, and I'll try to write a snippet of at least one of them.

I know I don't write that often, so it might not be obvious. :/

Today's topic is best series opener. I think everyone must agree that that's The Way Back, and not just because of the shock of Tal and Masha Varon getting shot at the end. It's a great episode for establishing the Federation and how it works, with surprising and fresh writing all the way through.

Like [livejournal.com profile] aralias, though, despite thinking it's the best series opener, it's probably not my favorite. For that, I'd have to choose "Aftermath," which is sexy and fun (although it's not all fun and games, obviously). It doesn't follow on that well from "Star One," which is disappointing, but it's a great episode for Dayna, Avon, Servalan, and Hal Mellanby (sadly his only one, which is what makes this episode not all fun and games). It's sort of interesting that they seemed to toy with making Avon more heroic in this ep. It doesn't really seem to have been part of a serious, sustained effort to change his character in Series 3, so I wonder what was going on there. Still, I like that about it. I also like that it works as a two-parter with Power Play, which is another favorite episode of mine.

Today's topic (actually yesterday's, but I forgot) is something that made you laugh.

The real question is 'with, or at?' )

Today's topic is "worst decision." Blake and Avon have each made some bad ones, but surely the award goes to

Today's question is favorite image or screen cap. This is a quick one, which is good--today was long! This image is a weird favorite--I don't know, it captures Avon's character for me in a way most stills don't. Not the most flattering shot of him (although not the least, either--he's not particularly photogenic!), but it just has a certain something. I've spent too much time looking at it.

Today's item is "favorite guest character."

So, I am officially doing the 30 Days of Any TV Show Meme. Today's topic is "what you wish happened."

JENNA: Maybe some dreams are worth having.
AVON: You don't really believe that.
JENNA: No, but I'd like to.

Here are two B7 vids! One I made with [livejournal.com profile] corngold, the other my boyfriend made himself.

Here's the vid I made with [livejournal.com profile] corngold. This was lots of fun. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] corngold! You may notice it's more tasteful than my usual thing. She's a good influence.

Here's the vid my bf made. I love it completely. Can't. Stop. Watching. You may notice that it's not tasteful at all. I'm a bad influence.

Hello, flist. I have just made a quick and dirty B/A vid to Icona Pop's "I Don't Care (I Love It)." Do you love Series 4 best? No? Do you love pop music? No? Well, perhaps the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts (or perhaps not...). Anyway, this was just for fun. In case you think Avon is too much of a (90s) bitch in this song, I'm also reposting another vid I made a month or so ago, to Mary Wells' "My Guy," to balance the scales. I don't, however, think that the two vids tell particularly different stories, despite appearances.

So, A Softer World is a webcomic I sometimes read and enjoy. Over the years, I've seen a few fandom specific remixes (same text as the comic, images from the show), which the authors of the webcomic encourage. I decided to make a few remixes for Blake's 7, just for fun. Remixes are below the cut. This is one of those posts maybe better suited to tumblr, but oh well.

So, you know Tom Swifties? I've been amusing myself coming up with some Doctor Who themed ones. Read on at your own risk. Bad puns are bad:

"Perhaps I should just take her name," Rory pondered.

"Excuse me, but I'm the medical doctor," Martha cut in.

"And I have a badge in mathematical excellence," added Adric.

"Hello, Sweetie!" River sang.

"I wish you would just go on and call me Jo, Master. Though I known you're only trying to be polite," Jo granted.

Feel free to join in, flist.

Days 7 & 8

Life is a bit frenetic right now.  But I am not abandoning the meme!

Day 7: Favorite Clown

My favorite clown at the moment is definitely King Lear's fool.  I find his relationship with Lear both sweet and sad. Somehow, the fool brings out Lear's humanity and his ability to feel for his fellow human beings as he rages in the storm.  I also love the ways in which the fool and Cordelia mirror each other.

Also, I must rail against a production I recently saw in which the fool HANGS HIMSELF.  No. Just. No.  I think one of the most stunningly ambiguous, most deeply moving moments in the play comes when Lear, cradling Cordelia's body, says, "and my poor fool is hanged."  This RUINS IT. /End rant

Day 8: Favorite Comedy

I really have three favorites: Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, and Much Ado About Nothing. I love them each for different reasons.  Since I have to pick one, though, I'll go with Twelfth Night.  It's fun and quirky and bursting at the seams with romantic love of all kinds. At the same time, though, there's a dark edge that always makes me slightly uncomfortable. Now that I've given this some thought, I realize that my favorite modern comedies are quite similar, tonally: I love Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou.
